EEncounter the art of the port town「Art trail」

A variety of public artworks seen all over the city.

In the Minato Mirai 21 District, community development is being carried out using art with the aim of creating an enjoyable and comfortable city environment while maintaining the urban landscape. Public art is actively set up in the premises and common spaces of each facility, and over 60 public artworks can be found throughout the entire Minato Mirai 21 District area. Enjoy walking around the city and looking for your favorite artworks.

Zou-no-hana Terrace (Zou-no-hana Park)

Opened as part of the 150th anniversary of the opening of the Port of Yokohama, it aims to connect a variety of people and cultures and to create new cultures. Various cultural programs including art, performing arts and music are held from time to time.

The harp was conceived from the wires of the Yokohama Bay Bridge, and the work was inspired by the "seagull playing and gently nurturing the sounds of Yokohama". With an exterior that designed to evoke the image of a yacht under sail, this hotel is very eye-catching. If you look up at the top of the building from the ocean side, you can see the statue of the goddess “Michibiki”, which is the origin of the name of the Megami (Goddess) –bashi Bridge. The statue is meant to “lead” and was installed as a hope that Yokohama would fly high and the safety of voyaging ships.

A colorful and eye-catching tree can be found in the grove of Rinko Park. The tree with grapes, apples, peaches, bananas, etc. was installed here after the closing of the first Yokohama Triennale in 2001, an artwork created by international artist Choi Jeong Hwa.

The artwork was intended to mitigate the strong “building winds” generated by the nearby tall buildings. The Boundaries of the Limitless (Queen’s Square Yokohama)

The words you see painted on the huge wall when you look up the escalator at MinatoMirai Station are an excerpt from a letter written by a German poet to the Prince of Denmark in the 19th century.
