Shinko Pier Cruise Terminal
Shinko Pier is located almost right in the center of Yokohama Port, and it was built between the late Meiji and Taisho periods as the first modern pier in Yokohama Port allowing people and cargo to be loaded onto ships without relying on barges. The pier still has an historically valuable 50 t crane (hammerhead crane).
Shinko Pier Cruise Terminal (Yokohama Hammerhead) was completed on October 31, 2019, at Shinko Pier. It has three characteristics that set it apart from other cruise terminals, i.e., it is Japan’s first international passenger terminal combining a hotel with a commercial facility, it is operated through public-private cooperation centered on local companies, and it has a commercial facility with a factory and activity functions centered on food. Moreover, it lies within walking distance of popular tourist spots, such as Minatomirai and Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse, with good access to Sakuragicho Station being around 10 minutes by bus, offering convenience for tours during port calls.
