Soccer - Yokohama Sports Teams Special

Soccer has become a national sport in Japan since the J-League began in 1993. Soccer is played with a team of 11 players competing to score points by inserting a ball into the opponent's goal.
The number of soccer players in Japan is over 4 million. It is popular all over the world because of its simple rules and the fact that it can be played with just a ball and a certain amount of space. In addition to the FIFA World Cup, which is played between countries, clubs also compete against each other in tournaments that attract a great deal of attention, especially in Europe and South America.
Japan's oldest soccer match, held in 1888, was between a team from Yokohama and a team from Kobe.
The 2002 FIFA World Cup final match between Germany and Brazil, co-hosted by Japan and Korea, was played at Nissan Stadium in Kohoku-ku, Yokohama.

Tips for a better sports experience!
Spectator's Guide

POINT1

Japan is now a regular participant in the FIFA World Cup Final Tournament. Japan's J-League is one of the highest level soccer leagues in Asia, so you can watch world-class players play here.

POINT2

One of the most fascinating aspects of soccer is the goal scenes. Since it is a sport where dozens of goals are never scored in a single game, each goal scene is very valuable and exciting. Don’t miss it!

POINT3

Compared to other sports, the soccer rules are said to be easier to understand. Basically, as long as you understand that "you don’t use your hands" and "you score when you shoot into the opponent's goal," you can enjoy watching the game even if you are not familiar with the sport.

POINT4

Among sports leagues, the J-League's slogan is to be community-based. This is why, if you go to a game, the chances are infinitely high that the people cheering next to you are from the team's hometown. If you visit the stadium, you might make new friends!
