Simply stunning is one way to describe the Yokohama skyline. The buildings and attractions along the waterfront of the Minato Mirai 21 district are a sight to behold at any time of the day, though look particularly enchanting at night.
En plus de la tour emblématique de Yokohama 296 mètres et de l'horloge Cosmo 21, il y a aussi les trois tours royales de Yokohama. Ces magnifiques structures étaient autrefois considérées comme un point de référence pour les marins étrangers entrant dans le port car il n'y avait pas beaucoup d'autres immeubles de grande hauteur dans la première moitié du 20e siècle. Les marins surnommaient les tours King, Queen et Jack. Le trio de bâtiments a tous dû être restauré après avoir été détruit par le grand tremblement de terre de Kanto de 1923.
The Kanagawa Prefectural Government building is the King. Rebuilt in 1928, the centrally elevated neoclassical structure with a Japanese-style roof is known as a Teikan Yoshiki (Imperial Crown style) building and is one of the first of its kind. Modeled after a five-storied pagoda, it’s been designated as a tangible cultural asset. The best time to see its exterior is between sundown and 10 pm when the place is lit up. As for the interior, a historical exhibition hall and a rooftop observatory can be visited on weekdays.
Reconstruit six ans après la tour du roi, le bâtiment des Douanes de Yokohama, affectueusement surnommé la tour de la reine, mesure 51 mètres de haut, ce qui en fait la plus haute des trois tours royales de Yokohama. Une structure d'apparence raffinée, elle présente un dôme vert de style mosquée et des carreaux beiges. La salle d'exposition d'informations au premier étage nommée "Queen no Hiroba" (Place de la Reine) est ouverte au public tous les jours sauf les jours fériés. L'entrée est gratuite.
Le troisième des trois tours royales de Yokohama est sans doute le plus esthétique. La Jack Tower, c'est-à-dire le Salle du souvenir du Port de Yokohama, a célébré son 100e anniversaire en 2017. Bien que construite à l'origine pendant la Première Guerre mondiale, elle a dû être restaurée une décennie plus tard après avoir brûlé à cause du tremblement de terre. La conception du bâtiment en brique rouge est connue comme un style classique sans Tatsuno, du nom de Tatsuno Kingo, concepteur du bâtiment Marunouchi de la gare de Tokyo. À l'intérieur, il y a des couloirs et des escaliers élégants ainsi que deux vitraux.
There are three spots in Yokohama where you can see the trio of Yokohama Three Royal Towers at the same time: In front of the Kanagawa Prefectural Government building on Nihon Odori Street, at the Osanbashi International Passenger Terminal, and the Red Brick Warehouse. Superstitious people may want to visit the three vantage points in one day as they’re relatively close to each other, and according to legend, all your wishes will come true if you do.
Throughout the second half of the twentieth century, more and more buildings started to take shape along the waterfront with the most recognizable being Yokohama Landmark Tower. When construction finished in 1993, the near 300-meter structure was the tallest building in Japan, though has since been surpassed by Abeno Harukas in Osaka. The observatory deck offers 360-degree panoramic views of Yokohama and the bay area. On clear days, Tokyo Tower, Skytree and Mt. Fuji can also be seen. Those wishing to stay the night can book a room at the Yokohama Royal Park Hotel which starts on the 52nd floor, going up to the 67th.

Il est ensuite à quelques pas de la Cosmo Clock 21, sans doute la vue la plus remarquable de la ligne d'horizon de Yokohama, qui était la plus grande grande roue du monde lorsqu'elle a été construite en 1989. Il y a 60 gondoles chacune pouvant transporter jusqu'à huit personnes qui dirigent une cercle toutes les 15 minutes. La célèbre horloge / roue est à son meilleur pendant la nuit lorsqu'elle est allumée et que les lumières changent de couleur.
