2024 Shunsetsu Toka

2024 Shunsetsu Toka

The Yokohama Chinatown Development Cooperative Association will host the winter illumination event "2024 Shunsetsu Toka" in Yokohama Chinatown from November 1, 2023 (Wednesday) to February 24, 2024 (Saturday).

Started in 1986, the biggest event in Yokohama Chinatown, the "Spring Festival," celebrates the Chinese New Year on the lunar calendar (February 10, 2024, for this year). It is a Chinese festival that attracts over a million people each year, becoming a winter tradition in Yokohama. To enhance the festive atmosphere throughout the city leading up to the Spring Festival, the "Shunsetsu Toka," named in 2003, features illuminations.

In the 2024 Spring Festival Lights, a combination of lanterns and lantern light lines will create a fantastical display throughout Yokohama Chinatown with vibrant lights in auspicious red and gold tones. In Yamashita Park, giant lantern installations representing the symbols of the emperor and empress, "Dragon" and "Phoenix," will be featured. Additionally, two streets, Chinatown Main Street and Nishimon Street, will showcase "Hundred-Segment Dragon" and "Fifty-Segment Dragon," made up of approximately 100 lanterns each, symbolizing strength and good fortune. The golden dragons aim to bring happiness to those visiting Yokohama Chinatown.

Furthermore, initiatives to connect neighborhoods and promote mutual attraction and circulation through light, which have been ongoing since 2020, will also be implemented simultaneously. The Market Street Bridge will be adorned (Light Bridge) to connect with Motomachi, and a road from Asahi Gate to Yamashita Park will be illuminated (Light Promenade) to connect with Yamashita Park, creating illuminated pathways to Yamashita Park and the Red Brick Warehouse area.
