Sankeien Garden - New Year Event 2026

Sankeien Garden - New Year Event 2026

Sankeien Garden is a vast classical Japanese garden covering over 175,000 square meters, renowned for its seasonal beauty.

During the New Year holidays, Kakushokaku—a historic building within Sankeien Garden that once served as the residence of the garden’s founder, Sankei Hara—will be open to the public. Traditional Japanese cultural performances will be held during this period.

※The Knife Ceremony is a traditional Japanese ritual that dates back over 1,100 years. In this ceremony, fish or chicken are prepared using only chopsticks and a knife—without touching the ingredients by hand. Some chefs still perform this ritual today to cultivate mindfulness and respect in their approach to cooking. The Knife Ceremony is solemn, yet it also embodies the grace and elegance of Japanese hospitality.
