Monet and Ukiyo-e:The Beauty of Japan That Enchanted an Impressionist

The immersive museum “THE MOVEUM YOKOHAMA by TOYOTA GROUP,” located at a special venue at Yamashita Pier in Yokohama, will present its second exhibition, “Monet and Ukiyo-e:The Beauty of Japan That Enchanted an Impressionist” from Saturday, October 24, 2026, through Wednesday, March 31, 2027.

Set in a vast space, this experiential museum allows visitors to immerse themselves in the world of art while surrounded by visuals and sound.

The theme of this exhibition is Claude Monet, a leading figure of the Impressionist movement, and Japanese ukiyo-e. While tracing Monet’s artistic journey, the exhibition focuses on the influence Japanese art had on him and explores the connection between ukiyo-e—which brought new expressive possibilities to Western art in the late 19th century—and Impressionism.

The venue presents a large-scale immersive experience that fuses painting with architecture, music, video, and sound. Visitors can do more than simply view the artworks; they can fully immerse themselves in the world of art while surrendering to the visuals and sounds that fill the entire space. For transportation, a free shuttle service runs from the “Yamashita Pier Bus Stop”—located just past Yamashita Park—to the venue, ensuring a smooth journey.

Additionally, admission is free for middle school students and younger. Hands-on programs, such as art workshops, are held primarily on weekends, allowing visitors not only to view the artworks but also to engage with art and experience the joy of creativity—another highlight of the event.
