Bashamichi Festival
The “Bashamichi Festival” will be held in Yokohama’s Bashamichi Shopping Street from Friday, October 31 to Monday, November 3.
Bashamichi is a street where Japan first introduced gas lights, boulevard trees, ice cream, and many other elements of Western culture. Today, various festivals and events are held annually to commemorate its history. During the Bashamichi Festival, horse-drawn carriages, rickshaws, and ladies dressed in clothing from the Rokumeikan era (1880s) parade through the street. There will be a street market, concerts, rakugo (Japanese sit-down comedy), a gas-lighting ceremony, and much more.
